Accesibility
The closest one is Athens International Airport “Eleftherios
Venizelos”, which receives both domestic and international flights all
year round. Upon your arrival at the airport of Athens, you need to reach
Piraeus port and embark on the ferry that transfers you to Aegina. Ferries
depart from Piraeus port daily, almost every hour. The trip lasts from 40
minutes to 1,10 hour, depending on whether your ferry is a regular or a high
speed one.
Aegina City
Aegina Town is the capital and main port of the island. It is a lovely little town, with beautiful neoclassical buildings of different bright colours, narrow streets, picturesque cafes, nice squares and a lovely port where tiny coloured fishing boats are mooring.
History
Aegina has a long history, dating from the Neolithic to the later years.
The high points in its history were the period if its great prosperity and the short period when it was proclaimed first capital and home of governor Ioannis Kapodistrias.
Marathonas beach is one of the most visited beaches on the island.
It is sandy and the water is shallow, because of this it is a popular beach for families with small kids.
You can enjoy the view towards Moni island on your left with Methana behind it, and more in front you can see the island of Agistri with the Peloponnese in the background.
